Yellow cedar
Yellow cedar🌳
Yellow cedar is a kind of tree that is common in northwestern North America and now the population of it decline a lot. The reading suggests three hypotheses to explain this decline. However, the listening refuses the reading’s points by saying that none of the reading evidence is antique.
First, the author states that the decrease of population of the yellow cedar may be caused by insect parasites, like the cedar bark beetle which eat wood. Instead, the lecturer disagrees with the reading and believes that cedar bark beetle isn’t the fundamental cause for the decline of cedar bark beetle. To be more specific, healthy yellow cedar is more resistant than others and can provide chemical poisonous for insect. In that way, cedar can’t suffer damage.
Secondly, the writer thinks that brown bears cause the decline of the population of yellow cedar since they claw at the cedars. In the contrary, professor challenges the writer’s idea by suggesting that bears are not the cause of overall of the decline of the population of yellow cedar. Since not only in mainland in North America has the phenomena about the decline of the population of yellow cedar but also in the island of North America has this situation. Therefore, whatever have bears or without bears, there are no responsibility for bears about the decline of yellow cedars.
Thirdly, the author believes that climate change may be caused the the decline of the population of yellow cedar because temperatures affect the root system. On contrast, the professor doubts the reading’s suggesting by stating that reading forgets to account an important situation. There should be more trees die in the high elevation, but instead the mainly decline of the population of yellow cedar is in the low elevation which is more warm than high elevation.
