How can we protect marine wildlife?🐟🌊
Wild animal deserve our help, especially marine wildlife. The ocean is the downstream of everything, so all our actions, no matter where we live, will affect the ocean and the marine life it carries. Those who live on the coastline will have the most direct impact on the ocean, but even if you live far inland, you can do a lot to help marine life.
Here are eight easy ways to help protest marine wildlife! If you have any novel ideas, please contact me as soon as possible!
1. Pay attention to carbon footprint and reduce energy consumption
Leave your car at home as much as possible and be aware of your energy use at home and at work, to reduce the impact of climate change on the ocean. From today on, you can do a few things: change compact fluorescent bulbs, take stairs, bundle, or use fans to avoid overheating the thermostat.
2. Choose safe and sustainable seafood
Global fish stocks are rapidly depleting due to demand, habitat loss, and unsustainable fishing practices. When shopping or eating out, help reduce the demand for overexploited species by choosing seafood that is both healthy and sustainable.
3. Reduce the use of plastic products
Plastic, which eventually becomes marine garbage, causes habitat destruction and entangles and kills tens of thousands of marine animals every year. To reduce the impact, carry reusable water bottles, store food in non-disposable containers, bring your cloth bags or other reusable bags when shopping, and recycle as much as possible.
4. Help take care of the beach
Whether you like diving, surfing, or relaxing on the beach, clean it up by yourself. Explore and enjoy the ocean without disturbing wildlife or removing rocks and corals. We can go further by encouraging others to respect the marine environment or participate in local beach cleaning.
5. Don’t buy anything that uses marine life
Some products contribute to the damage to vulnerable coral reefs and marine populations. Avoid buying coral jewelry, tortoiseshell hair accessories (made of tortoiseshell), and shark products.
6. Be a sea-friendly pet owner
Read the label of pet food and consider the sustainability of seafood when choosing a diet for pets. Avoid stocking wild caught saltwater fish in the aquarium, and do not release any aquarium fish to the sea or other water bodies, which may introduce non-native species harmful to the existing ecosystem.
7. Support organizations committed to protecting the oceans
Many institutions and organizations are fighting for the protection of marine habitats and marine wildlife. Find a national organization and consider providing financial support or volunteering for practical work or publicity. If you live near the coast, join a local branch or group to participate in projects close to home.
8. Travel responsibly in the ocean
Practice responsible boating, kayaking, and other recreational activities on the water. Never throw anything into the sea. Pay attention to the marine life in the waters around you. If you plan to take a cruise on the next holiday, do some research to find the most environmentally friendly option.
What should not be neglected is that propagandizing the extinction of marine wildlife. We, the world’s master, should pay attention to the wildlife. What’s a pity that our later generations can’t see or enjoy any wildlife in the future.
